The Jackson Heights Middle School Band is off to a "roaring" good start!  The band is playing so very well!  Highlights from this year already include our "Rhythm Rewards" days, "handy dandy" blue book love, and teaching Mrs. Holliday how to use a selfie stick! (yes! that did happen) Here is proof!

The band is preparing for our first performance on the fall concert Tuesday, October 27 at 7:30 in the high school gym.  At this point we are well on our way to having a number of exciting pieces ready to perform for your listening enjoyment!  We hope you can join us!

JACKSON HEIGHTS MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND BEGINS!

The Jackson Heights Middle School Band is well underway.  We have been working on scales and other exercises to be able to warm up properly and also we have been working on our rhythm reading abilities by clapping and counting rhythms of varying difficulties. In class we have also been sight reading many different pieces of music.  This is when you prepare and play a piece for the very first time.  Taking in account the key signature, time signature, tempos, any changes in those, accidentals and difficult rhythms.  The band
is quite large and has a great sound!  We will be performing our fall concert on October 29, at 7:30 pm in the high school gym.

The Middle School Band gave it's first performance of the year on Tuesday October 23rd. The band performed a trumpet feature: "Trumpet Boogie" and a percussion feature: "Percussion Picante".
They also played "Walkin' and Talkin'" by Andy Clark and "All The King's Men" by Jerry Williams.
Mrs. Holliday was very pleased with the performance and is looking forward to wonderful musical events with this group of young musicians.
The middle school band year is well under way.  Students have been working hard already putting major scales to memory and improving their rhythm reading through new books provided by the Jacskon Heights Educational Foundation.  We have a well rounded band and lots of fun personalities in our group.  We are looking forward to performing on the Fall Concert October 23, at 7:30 in the high school gym.  Please plan on joining us for that performance!.

Just a little bit crazy!
