High School Band To March In Halloween Parade!

The Jackson Heights High School Band will be "marching" in the upcoming Hiawatha Halloween Parade.  Our band will be trying to retain the title of "Most Enthusiastic Band"  and bring home the "Carol Nigus" award for spirit.  The band has been honing it's band-dancing skills both inside the gym and out on the road (weather permitting).  If you want to see some CRAZY COBRA dancing and hear some GREAT music.....make your way to Hiawatha on Halloween evening.  The parade starts at 7 and there will be candy all over the place!  See YOU there....you won't be able to miss us!

We Have Spirit Yes We Do!

The high school band was challenged during homecoming week by Mrs. Holliday to have at least 80% participation in spirit week activities. 4 of the 6 Homecoming canidates were band members. Treats for Friday were promised if the band met the 80% challenge.....and they did!

First Home Football Game

Our first football home game was September 14, 2012.  The Cobras enjoyed a big win over Valley Falls and the weather was great.  In the beginning of the season, we go from needing sunglasses at the beginning of the game to needing lights by the 3rd quarter.

The band wore the new shirts they designed and it was our first game with the drum line instead of a drum set.  Nice Job Cobra Band!

BAND BEGINS!

After weeks of trying out instruments, working on remembering the names of notes, and practicing clapping and counting rhythms, the 5th Grade Band has finally begun to PLAY!
It is alway slow going in the beginning but this group is catching on fast and we have learned 3 notes and they actually sound pretty good!  We have a wide varity of instruments this year including: flutes, clarinet, saxophones, trumpets, percussion, baritone, trombone, and tuba.

Make sure to mark your calendar for the 5th Grade Band Debut performance on Tuesday, October 23, at 7:30 in the high school gym.
I am sure you will be suprised at how much these students have learned in such a short time.
